Hailey Bieber is remembering a fashion legend and a friend.
On Monday, the model shared a tribute to late designer Virgil Abloh, marking both what would have been his 44th birthday, and what was her and husband Justin Bieber’s fifth wedding anniversary.
On her Instagram Story, Hailey shared three different throwback photos from her September 30, 2019 wedding to Justin, for which Abloh designed her dress. The gown was a stunning white semi-sheer floral lace piece that featured long off-the-shoulder sleeves, a plunging open back, and a long skirt that pooled behind her. The main event, however, happened in the super-long veil, which trailed behind her like a sheer white river and read: “Till death do us part.”
(Hailey and Justin officially married in a private New York City courthouse ceremony on September 13, 2018, but didn’t hold their lavish wedding, attended by their friends and family, until one year later.)
In one photo shared on her Story, Hailey is seen walking in her wedding dress, one arm wrapped around Abloh’s. He wears a black hoodie, black pants, and black Off-White sneakers. Over the image, she wrote, “Happy Birthday V, we miss you! Thank you for making me the most magical wedding dress. 🤍.”
Abloh—then Louis Vuitton menswear’s artistic director and the founder of Off-White—died following a long and secret battle with cancer on November 28, 2021. His loved ones, along with the entire fashion world, mourned his death. His spirit remains alive today in his designs and in the people that loved him.
