Riverdale has dealt with a lot of drama this season, including several brutal murders, but the biggest mystery has always been why the Lodges are buying up real estate in town. Luckily, Riverdale Season 2, Episode 15 answers all of our questions about what the Lodges are planning, and also proved just how creepy Chic can be.
Here's everything that happened in "There Will Be Blood."
1) Jughead is still investigating Hiram.
Jughead isn't about to let Hiram Lodge off the hook. Still smarting from Hiram's Southside High buyout, Jughead continues his investigation into the Lodges, determined to uncover the truth.
2) Fred and Archie have dinner with the Lodges.
The Lodges invite Archie and his dad for dinner for a very important reason—they want Fred to be the next Mayor of Riverdale so they can control him.
It's also clear that there's definitely still chemistry between Hermione and Fred, which could make things awkward in the future.
Fred is elated about the idea of running for Mayor, but Archie doesn't want his father to be in any danger. Especially since it will mean that Fred is in the Lodge's pocket.
3) Betty convinces Kevin to catfish Chic.
Betty and Chic's brother-sister relationship is at a stalemate, so Betty decides to do what any sane family member would—catfish him. She gets Kevin to chat with Chic over webcam, because she's desperate to find out more about Chic's past.
However, Kevin chickens out after speaking to Chic, telling Betty, "You brother seems like a really good guy." Er, okay.
4) Clifford Blossom had a secret will.
Even in death, Clifford Blossom still has a hold on the town of Riverdale. He left a secret will, which wasn't to be revealed until all investigations surrounding his death, as well the family's drug business, ended.
Cheryl and her mom are understandably nervous about what Clifford's will could possibly say.
5) Hal Cooper asks for a divorce.
Following the revelation that Hal has been having an affair with Penelope Blossom, he finally asks Alice for a divorce. Hal claims the main reason he wants out is because Alice chose Chic, a stranger, over him. Alice agrees to begin proceedings.
6) Veronica's parents ask her to use her influence over Archie.
Now that Veronica is a part of the family business, her mom and dad expect her to help in any way she can. They want her to influence Archie so he convinces his dad to run for Mayor. However, Archie is wary of Veronica's sudden interest in his dad's potential campaign.
7) Archie tells Jughead that Hiram bought Pop's.
Looking for a way to expose Hiram Lodge's misdeeds, Archie reveals to Jughead that Hiram actually owns Pop's. Jughead goes to Pop's to investigate, where he learns he can't print a story about it—Pop doesn't want his family to know he was forced to sell the business. He asks Jughead to keep it a secret.
8) Polly comes back to Riverdale for the will reading.
Polly arrives back in town with her twins for the reading of Clifford Blossom's will. After all, the twins are Clifford's descendants, and as Hal Cooper's daughter, she also has Blossom blood—because everyone is related in Riverdale, after all.
Betty and Alice are overjoyed to see Polly and the twins. Even Chic holds one of the babies, which is beyond creepy.
9) Archie and Veronica fight.
Annoyed that she's interfering in his dad's decision to run for Mayor, Archie and Veronica have a fight. He tells her he doesn't want her trying to coerce him or his dad. Could this spell trouble for Varchie?
10) Clifford Blossom leaves half his wealth to everyone who can prove they have Blossom blood.
In a strange twist, Clifford leaves half his wealth to Cheryl and Jason, and the other half to anyone who can prove that they have Blossom blood. Half of Riverdale shows up for the will reading, because seriously, everyone is related in Riverdale.
Cheryl asks Toni to come along to the reading for emotional support. They even hold hands.
11) Uncle Claudius shows up.
Cheryl thinks her dad has risen from the dead, but it turns out he has an identical twin. Claudius ran away from home when he was 14 because Clifford threatened to shoot him with a rifle—classic creepy twin behavior for Riverdale.
However, is Claudius really Clifford's brother? What if the pair switched before Clifford's death? Regardless of his identity, Claudius immediately begins plotting with Penelope to oust Nana Blossom from the family business.
12) Chic refuses to get his DNA tested.
He says that needles trigger him, so Betty takes matters into her own hands. She steals some of Chic's dental floss from the garbage in his bathroom and sends it off to get tested. Clearly, this means Chic isn't who everyone thinks he is.
13) Chic gets jealous of the twins.
Chic can't handle Alice's attention focused on the baby twins instead of him, so he borderline kidnaps the children. Even though he's only taken them for a walk by Sweetwater River, Polly is terrified. Chic's sinister behavior forces Polly to leave town with her children.
14) Pop tells Hiram that Jughead is investigating him.
Pop goes to Hiram to tell him Jughead found out about Pop's true ownership. Veronica takes the blame for Jughead finding out, even though it was Archie who revealed the secret. She claims that told Jughead to get him off the scent of bigger Lodge secrets, and with her mom's help, Hiram eventually agrees that she made a good decision.
15) FP reveals that Hiram paid the Serpents to trash the drive-in.
So that Hiram could "buy it for a rock bottom price." Jughead is devastated, as he loved the drive-in, but it's more evidence against Hiram for his investigation.
16) The Lodge's former doorman gives Jughead inside information.
Jughead gets a mysterious call asking him to a secret meeting at the Riverdale bus terminal. The Lodge's former doorman reveals that Hiram received mail from Shankshaw Prison.
17) FP and Jughead visit a prisoner named War Baby in Shankshaw.
After receiving the doorman's tip, FP and Jughead visit War Baby, a Serpent in prison, to find out what Hiram's plans for Riverdale are.
18) Hiram's plans are revealed.
The moment we've all been waiting for is... kind of a let-down. Hiram Lodge's grand plan is to turn Southside High into "a private, for-profit, prison." Is that it?
Fred is irate: "You want to turn my son's home into a prison?" Despite the Lodge's claims that the prison will create jobs and money for Riverdale, Fred hates the idea.
19) Hermione runs for Mayor instead of Fred.
Realizing that the Lodges can no longer control Fred, Hermione runs for Mayor instead. Fred is sad because he was looking forward to being the mayor of Riverdale, but the Lodges have bigger ideas. Because they're building a prison?!
20) Chic's DNA reveals that he's...
Not who he says he is. I guess we'll have to wait until the next episode to find out if he's related to the Coopers at all. I'm personally placing bets that he's FP and Alice's child.
21) Archie and Hiram become blood brothers.
In a strange end to the episode, Archie and Hiram make a blood pact, with Archie promising to do whatever it takes to keep Veronica, and the family, safe. Gross.
