Timothée Chalamet's absence from the 2022 Met Gala was duly noted.
Though he served as one of the co-chairs from last year's flashy event, the Dune actor skipped the fun this year. He has so far not commented on why he didn't attend last night's affair, but fans on Twitter mourned what could've been.
"Timothée Chalamet would have owned the gilded glamour theme if he attend the 2022 #MetGala," one user wrote.
Last year, Chalamet attended his first Met Gala wearing a white Haider Ackermann double-breasted suit jacket with matching white sweatpants. He rolled up the sweatpants to his ankles to show off a pair of beige high-top Converse All-Stars. Other accessories included diamond brooches, which were fastened at his hip.
Other than Chalamet, the 2021 Met Gala hosts included Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman. The theme and exhibition was "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion."
"Over the past year, because of the pandemic, the connections to our homes have become more emotional, as have those to our clothes," said Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu curator in charge of The Costume Institute, of last year's theme. "For American fashion, this has meant an increased emphasis on sentiment over practicality."
This year's Met Gala was a continuation of the "In America" theme, this time with a focus on the Gilded Age. The second part of the exhibition focuses on "sartorial narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories" of the United States, per the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
