Whether depicting a sparkly Cassie Howard in turbulent teen drama Euphoria or a barefaced whistle-blower in gritty thriller Reality, the actress Sydney Sweeney is captivating to watch. The same can be said for her red-carpet appearances, too, where – as one of the fashion world’s newest darlings – she executes myriad looks with aplomb. A big part of her transformations, she tells us, is the use of beauty as a tool.
“Beauty to me is a way to express myself,” Sweeney says in our exclusive video, above. “I almost try on different personalities of myself, whether I want to feel bold or sexy or flirty or tomboy – it’s a way to explore all those different personalities.”
That said, when she strips it all back, she feels the most authentic. “I feel most beautiful when I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt and I have very little make-up on and my hair is just down and blow-dried.” She pictures it: “I’m home and I’m on the lake, or I’m skiing, and I’m smiling and happy – and the most ‘me’.”
It’s this “natural, effortless” vibe that forms her signature style, she says, with “a little wing” or “a nude lip” to enhance things. “I’ll either just do concealer or I’ll use a light layer of the [Giorgio Armani] Luminous Silk Foundation,” she says of her make-up. The best tip she learnt from a make-up artist is that less really is more, “because then you get to build and change your make-up from beginning to end, instead of starting with too much and then having to take it away”. She also prefers “a really blushy cheek” – thanks to the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Glow Blush in shade 52 – and often reaches for the brand’s Lip Power lipstick in shade 104. It’s “my go-to lipstick because it is the most natural for my lip tone,” she shares.
Revealing her other favourite products, she cites the 111Skin Celestial Black Diamond Masks, noting “I rave about them all the time” (which celeb doesn’t?); the TheraFace Pro Facial Toning Device which she loves for “sculpting” her face; the Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Eye Cream and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. Plus, importantly, her favourite fragrance.
“I finish everything with Armani My Way,” she says of the eau de parfum. “I love all the notes, I love how it makes me feel and how it makes me smell. Everyone knows when I walk in a room because I shower myself in it.”
