Karol G knows how to command a stage.
The Colombian superstar took to the MTV Video Music Awards stage on Tuesday night to perform a high-energy medley of her songs “Oki Doki” and “Tá OK.” Karol opted for an extremely sexy, feminine-forward ensemble for her big performance, including a hot-pink bra and matching thong, with a plaid ruffled miniskirt and matching knee-high boots.
The VMAs served as a quick pit stop for the performer, who’s currently making history with her ongoing Mañana Será Bonito stadium tour. The tour is a landmark effort for a Latina artist, with Karol G being the first Latina ever to sell out consecutive nights at stadiums like MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and the Rose Bowl in Las Vegas. Mañana Será Bonito also made history earlier this year, as the first full Spanish-language album to reach no. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Karol G spoke with Harper’s Bazaar in February about the project and how she considers it a defining new chapter in her life and career.
“[The album title] means that it does not matter what happens today because everything is going to be okay. Sometimes we go through hard things, and we are just punching the air like, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ The idea of the title is to embrace the moment,” she said. “On my past albums, my idea was to find a song for everybody’s moment. [I would say,] ‘Let’s talk about a relationship. Let’s talk about a party.’ But on this album, I am really talking about a transition in my real life.”
