Jennifer Coolidge Elf Cosmetics Interview Dirty Pillows Lip Kit

After a brief hiatus, actress Jennifer Coolidge's Dirty Pillows Lip Kit, made in collaboration with e.l.f. Cosmetics, is finally back in stock—and just in time for the holidays. First launched just under two months ago on September 27, the limited-edition set, which features the brand's O Face Satin Lipstick, Lip Plumping Gloss, Cream Glide Lip Liner, and a branded gold mirror, was partly inspired by a former date.

“I’ll never forget: In my youth, when I was on a date, I had a guy say to me once, ‘You draw way too far above your lips,’” Jennifer Coolidge previously told Bazaar in an exclusive interview. “It was the only thing he said that was right. I was going way above my lips.” Although the White Lotus actor says she doesn’t like the look of overdrawn lips anymore, when it came time for her to ideate Dirty Pillows, she knew a lip liner was a given.

The final product for the set came to be Fill Frontal, a neutral mauve version of the brand’s Cream Glide lip liners. Also included in the collection: a compact mirror (Lips Are the Mirror to Your Soul), a baby-pink high-shine lip plumping gloss (Swollen), and a nude pink satin lipstick (Dirty Pillows), all encased in a luxe satin-lined box for $25.

Coolidge’s first collaboration with e.l.f. was the brand’s Super Bowl commercial in February, which featured her doing a hilarious dolphin impersonation as she discovered how dewy and sticky e.l.f.’s Power Grip Primer is. Now, in videos for the beauty company’s social platforms, she riffs on what she would name her own lip shades: “People always think they need to name a lipstick, you know, like a noun … but I think just adjectives—like, Swollen.” The campaign video for Dirty Pillows sees Coolidge caught by her husband in the middle of a steamy dream when her pillow and pout become one.

“When I came up with the shades, I thought maybe they would fight me a little bit. You know, some people encourage you and say, ‘We want to do something with you’ and then they push their own agenda,” the actor says. “But e.l.f. gave me free license.” From the get-go, that meant sticking with her signature light pink shades—it’s why in the past she created her own “lip potions,” mixing and matching products to get just the right shade to both complement her tone and accentuate her pout.

“I don’t look good with a dark red or a dark brown,” she says. “Anything that’s sort of darker, I can’t pull it off.” She’s always known this—and apparently so has everyone else, she says.

“If someone says, ‘Your lips look great,’ that’s a compliment, but I love when people go, ‘What combo do you have on?’” Coolidge says. “That’s the ultimate compliment, because then they want to look like you. Who’s going to take the time to listen to a monologue unless they really want to know?” And now, she’ll be able to point inquiring minds to her very own products.

The Jennifer Coolidge x e.l.f. Cosmetics Dirty Pillows Lip Kit is currently available at elfcosmetics.com for $25.
