Anne Hathaway made a ravishing appearance at the 2023 Met Gala.
This year's dress code pays homage to Chanel's late creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Anne Hathaway did just that with her ensemble: a body-hugging white tweed Versace gown. (Tweed, of course, was one of the fabrics Lagerfeld used over and over.) The strapless piece included sultry cutouts on the torso—with one extended into a thigh-high leg slit. The cutouts were held together by the Italian fashion house's iconic gold safety pins.
Hathaway further accessorized with matching tweed opera gloves, white platform pumps, and brilliant diamond choker by Bulgari.
Over the years, Hathaway has been among the A-list glitterati photographed on the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Her most recent Met Gala appearance was at the 2018 fête. Honoring the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" theme, the actor wore a magnificent Valentino Couture ball gown in a red-hot hue. The dress featured ruffled sleeves, a long triangular torso cutout, and a voluminous skirt. She accessorized with a gold halo crown that burst forth from her updo.
Hathaway talked about reinventing her style with longtime stylist Erin Walsh in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
"Erin sees my idiosyncrasies as a strength. Maybe there was initial confusion with me because I was introduced to the world as a teenaged princess, but I never actually connected to things that are 'sweet' and 'pretty'—no shade at all for those wonderful options," she said. "I love the right risk, as does she. I've never had this much fun—and it's supposed to be fun, right?"
