A new portrait of Prince George has been released by Kensington Palace in honour of his 11th birthday. The black-and-white photo shows the second-in-line to the throne looking very grown-up as he smiles for the camera.
In the new picture, George is wearing a dark suit with his hair combed to one side. The photo was taken by enthusiastic photographer Kate Middleton, who often snaps photos of the younger royals, which are then released public to mark special occasions.
The portrait was shared on the Kensington Palace official social media accounts, with the caption: "Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!"
George was born in the the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, Paddington in 2013, and is the eldest child of William and Kate.
As George as gotten older, he has taken a more prominent role in attending royal events.
He has previously attended the Wimbledon final with his mother. More recently, he flew to Germany with his father to watch the England men's football team in the Euro's finals against Spain.
George also played a very special role in King Charles's coronation last year. He was chosen to be one of the incoming monarch's Page of Honour, processing behind Charles and holding his ceremonial robes as they entered Westminster Abbey.
The new portrait comes after Kate took to social media herself, just a few days ago, to praise the healing power of nature. Kate is a patron for the Natural History Museum, which has just launched its new Urban Nature Project. To promote the launch, the royal took to Instagram with a heartfelt message for her followers.
The princess also received a standing ovation last week, when she attended the Wimbledon men’s final. She told onlookers that she was “glad to be back”, following her time away from the public gaze after being diagnosed with cancer.
