Penélope Cruz is a Chanel girl through and through.
The actor has long favored the French fashion house, most recently wearing a custom lacy black gown by Chanel for the 2024 Met Gala. Before that, she stepped out in another bespoke ensemble, pairing an ivory baroque top with a flouncy, tiered skirt for this year’s Governors Awards. “It always makes me feel so lucky, as it was my dream as a little girl to be able to wear some of these Chanel pieces,” Cruz told Harper’s Bazaar at the time. “The fact that they created this look just for me is even more of a dream come true.”
She further proved her loyalty on Friday night, when she made a glamourous arrival to the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival. She wore a sophisticated Chanel gown enveloped in white lace, taking care to show off its drop-waist and sheer mermaid train. The form-fitting design also featured sheer sleeves and a sweetheart neckline, accented by a large black bow and a white rosette.
Cruz paired her elegant Chanel look with a black patent leather clutch, as well as a geometric silver ring and dangling crystal earrings. In contrast to her polished gown, she wore her highlighted brown hair in a voluminous, tousled style with a deep side part. Her glam, however, continued the refined theme with sharp black eyeliner and a demure brown lipstick.
In a rare move, Cruz was joined by her husband, Javier Bardem. As he accepted the festival’s Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award later in the night, Bardem became emotional as he gushed over his wife, whom he married in 2010.
“And to a woman who I love and who I’ve shared a life with, I want to thank and give my deep gratitude for the human being you are and how you can be responsible for life, the life of your children, the life of your family, your mother, your friends, the life of others, the many people that you don’t know that you suffer for and you take care of and undoubtedly the life of this gentleman who’s here, who loves you and thanks you very much for it,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bardem swiftly thanked their two children, Leo and Luna, and blew kisses in the direction of Cruz’s seat.
