Gwyneth Paltrow may have been married before, but she's never actually had a real wedding ceremony. "I'm excited about everything! I've never had a wedding before!" she gushed to People in January. Paltrow eloped with ex-husband Chris Martin in 2003.
On September 29, she finally had her chance to be a proper bride when she married TV writer Brad Falchuck in an intimate ceremony in the Hamptons. Nearly a month after the super-private nuptials, we finally know how Paltrow dressed for the major milestone. Here, we break down everything we know about the bride's looks from the big day.
She wore a lace Valentino gown.
Paltrow walked down the aisle in a stunning Valentino gown featuring lace appliqués over a nude lining, cap sleeves, a fuller skirt, and a keyhole cutout back. The bride collaborated with designer Pierpaolo Piccioli on the look. She finished it off the ensemble with a simple tulle veil.
She has close ties to the brand.
Paltrow has a long-running history with Valentino, from sitting front-row at runway shows, to vacationing with the eponymous designer in Mexico. (The secret trip just took place in June, sparking wedding designer rumors.)
While Pierpaolo Piccioli sits at the helm of Valentino as its Creative Director, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti remain involved in the brand’s special projects, and are seen in the front row each season. Goop even collaborated with Valentino, then under Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, for a capsule collection in 2015. Paltrow’s connection to the house over the years along with her friendship with the brand’s founders could mean we’re in for one of Valentino’s most incredible haute couture bridal gowns to date.
She wore a Stella McCartney caped romper for the reception.
Gwyneth and Brad's after party was '80s-themed, which means she had to be able to move around and dance. Paltrow ditched the dress and went for a chic white romper (yes, a romper) by Stella McCartney with a cape for an elevated twist. See a full photo on Goop.
Paltrow and McCartney are longtime friends.
"Sometimes in life you get a girlfriend who becomes like a sister," Gwyneth said of the designer in 2013, according to The Telegraph. Paltrow was already serving bridal vibes in the brand at the 2005 Academy Awards. She can't go wrong with choosing a friend to dress her on her wedding day.
She wore a plum Giambattista Valli gown for her engagement party.
At her engagement party in April, Paltrow wore a plum asymmetrical number by Giambattista Valli Couture. "I will never get over my gorgeous dress," she wrote on Instagram after the fête.
Her best friends helped with planning.
“It’s kind of fun to talk about with my girlfriends. They send me pictures of dresses — they’re as excited about it as I am. It’s pretty cute,” she also told People in January. We wonder which design and designer she and her inner circle have decided on.
