One of the many reasons Emma Stone’s new movie Poor Things has gotten everyone talking is thanks to the film’s wonderfully whimsical fashion, courtesy of costume designer Holly Waddington. Stone’s Victorian-inspired ensembles are like a “five-year-old dressing herself from her mother’s wardrobe,” as Waddington herself puts it, and it looks like Stone brought that same playfulness to the Golden Globes red carpet tonight.
For the event, Stone wore a bejeweled take on the naked dress in the form of a custom-made Louis Vuitton gown. The sheer slip featured tons of glittery champagne-colored sequins embroidered all over, along with a slew of dainty pale pink and dusty blue flower illustrations. The dress also had a deep V neckline and a high center leg slit, which showed off a pair of satin nude heeled sandals underneath. To further accessorize, Stone added double drop earrings and a vibrant yellow gemstone ring.
The Oscar winner is up for two awards at the Globes tonight. First, Stone is nominated for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in Poor Things, the Yorgos Lanthimos sci-fi comedy about a young woman who gets brought back to life by a mad scientist. But she also got a second nod for Best Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama, thanks to her part in the Showtime black comedy The Curse, a series about a dysfunctional do-gooder married couple trying to launch an HGTV show.
Stone has been nominated six times before this for a Golden Globe, and won once, for her role as Mia Dolan in 2016’s La La Land. Stone also won her Oscar, a BAFTA Award, and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for that performance.
