Thanks to his stellar performance in Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story, Adam Driver has been nominated for a plethora of awards in 2020.
Fans of the Girls star will likely have noticed that the actor has regularly been accompanied on the red carpet by his wife, Joanne Tucker. And if you're wondering why we haven't heard all that much about Kylo Ren's love life, it's because he likes to keep it seriously low-key. Here's everything we know so far about Driver's very private romance.
They met at Juilliard.
After being medically discharged from the Marine Corps, Driver attended the University of Indianapolis for a year, and then decided to audition for Juilliard again. Of his decision to reapply, he told M magazine (via Us Weekly) in 2014, "When you get out of the Marine Corps, you feel like you can do anything. That was part of why I went to re-audition for Juilliard. I thought, ‘Worse comes to worst, I know how to live. I’ll live in Central Park or something. I’ll survive.'"
The risk paid off, and Driver got into the school, where he just so happened to meet his future wife, Joanne Tucker. The pair graduated in 2009.
They founded Arts in the Armed Forces together.
After meeting at Juilliard, Driver and Tucker founded Arts in the Armed Forces, of which Tucker is the Artistic Director.
In an interview with The Guardian in 2015, Driver described AITAF as an opportunity to "bring thought-provoking theater-based troop entertainment to an audience that wouldn’t normally be associated with theater. And we get the reactions that we’re going for."
Tucker and Driver tied the knot in 2013.
Per Us Weekly, Driver and Tucker "got married over the weekend of June 22" in 2013. While not much is known about the nuptials, Us Weekly reported that the couple had a "destination wedding" which was attended by Girls creator Lena Dunham. Per the publication's source, Driver and Tucker "are very sweet together. They’ve been dating forever—years—and live together; [they're] very comfortable and in love. She was with him before the Girls fame. They both love theater and the arts."
In an interview with Broadway.com in 2013, Driver adorably said of his wife, "She taught me what Gouda cheese is... And that you shouldn't talk with your mouth full and spit on the sidewalk." Sounds like true love, tbh.
They allegedly welcomed a kid in 2016.
Driver and Tucker are so stealth that they reportedly welcomed their first child together, and no-one knew about it. In 2018, Page Six reported, "Pals of the actor and his wife say that family members have posted about Tucker’s pregnancy on their private Instagram feeds," with a source supposedly confirming that Driver had a "2-year-old son."
In 2017, Driver appeared to slip up during an interview and mention his child, but he quickly walked it back, and apparently none of us noticed. At the time, the actor told W, "I look at my dog—this sounds so absurd—but it’s not—I don’t know if I can love anything more. Like, I have a kid, maybe—and be like, ya know, but the dog!"
Meanwhile, Driver's costar in Logan Lucky, Channing Tatum, appeared to confirm that the actor had, in fact, welcomed a child. During a joint interview in 2017, Tatum joked to Driver, "Can you imagine you’re just making martinis for your baby?"
And while hosting Saturday Night Live in January 2020, Driver joked, "I’m a husband, and a father. It’s in that order though. I’ve been very clear with my son about that. He’s second to everything."
They have a dog called Moose.
As referenced above, Driver has a Rottweiler-pitbull called Moose that he loves very, very much. He revealed to W that Tucker bought him the pup for his birthday. He explained, "I think I was just on a tangent, at Halloween. Fucking Halloween, ridiculous holidays, bullshit. If I had a dog, I’d play with my dog on Halloween. I don’t have to see kids all the time. And she’s like, 'Well, I’m getting you a goddam dog for your birthday, so shut up.'" According to The Telegraph, Driver happily resides in Brooklyn with Moose, his wife, and presumably the couple's son.
They've acted onscreen together.
Tucker appeared on an episode of Girls with her husband, and the pair also starred in a short film called The Basement together. You're going to want to check both out right now.
