Lana Del Rey is in her honeymoon phase, and we’re not talking about her fourth studio album. On September 26, the singer-songwriter shocked the world when she tied the knot with her new partner, Jeremy Dufrene, after seemingly beginning a relationship with him only a month prior.
However, despite the fact that the pair only recently went public, it’s unclear just how long they’ve actually been together. What we do know is that Dufrene is the captain for a Louisiana tour company, Arthur’s Airboat Tours, which Del Rey has been patronizing for years. In fact, the first time the “Video Games” singer posted about Dufrene was all the way back in 2019, when she shouted out his company on Facebook.
Now, after a whirlwind month that included a celebrity wedding, a concert in England, and lots of wild internet rumors, the couple are enjoying their newly wedded bliss. Here, we break down Del Rey and Dufrene’s complete relationship timeline.
October 1: Lana speaks about her relationship with Jeremy for the first time.
While on her honeymoon in New Orleans, Louisiana, the singer responds to a fan Instagram post featuring photos and clips of her and Dufrene.
“Unfortunately, a local couple from Houma won’t stop flying drones into our windows every morning and following us with a tracker,” Del Rey writes. She adds that the local paparazzi have also been following them everywhere and photoshopping her wedding ring into a pearl.
Del Rey adds: “All that being said Jeremy is the one and only. And amazing. And we’re very happy.”
September 26: Lana and Jeremy shock the world with a surprise wedding in Louisiana.
The couple is wasting no time. Three days after obtaining a marriage license, Del Rey and Dufrene wed in a surprise ceremony in Des Allemands, Louisiana, on September 26—right on the public bayou where Dufrene operates his boat tours.
In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, the musician is seen being walked down the aisle by her father, Robert Grant, while carrying a bouquet of flowers. For the event, Del Rey wears a summery wedding gown with a ruffled neckline and wavy skirt that brushes the ground with its slight train. According to a report from TMZ, Del Rey thrifted the dress from Vintage Market by Trashy Diva in New Orleans, where it’s believed she spent only a few hundred dollars. Meanwhile, she added a satin blue bow to her hair, which served as her “something blue.”
According to the Daily Mail, the reception was held along the public harbor, where guests had their dinner under a collection of white tents. Del Rey’s siblings, Caroline “Chuck” Grant and Charlie Hill-Grant, were among the guests in attendance.
September 23: The pair obtains a marriage license.
Days after Del Rey is spotted with what appears to be an engagement ring, People reports that she and Dufrene have obtained a marriage license—and have 30 days to use it.
In the report, the outlet writes: “Dufrene obtained a marriage license on September 23, a Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court confirmed. … They have 30 days from the date they applied to get married.”
September 16: Lana is spotted with an engagement ring.
As Del Rey and Dufrene lounge on a porch in Louisiana, the “Summertime Sadness” singer appears to be wearing an engagement ring. While on her phone, she flashes a sparkler on her finger, which is captured by paparazzi nearby.
September 8: Lana brings Jeremy to Karen Elson and Lee Foster’s wedding.
For model Karen Elson and Lee Foster’s nuptials, held at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, Del Rey brings Dufrene as her plus-one.
The two are spotted leaving the venue together, where photographers capture them in coordinated blue outfits (as seen here). Del Rey sports a halter-style baby blue dress with floral lace details and a rosette adornment attached in the middle. She accessorizes with a pair of white ballet flats and a mint green clutch with a butterfly-shaped clasp.
Meanwhile, Dufrene rocks a royal blue suit with a white button-up and brown boat shoes. The pair are seen smiling and holding hands as they leave the venue.
August 31: Lana shuts down a fake online rumor.
Amidst burgeoning rumors about Del Rey and Dufrene’s relationship, one X (formerly Twitter) user decides to fabricate a story about being the tour guide’s daughter and finding out about their relationship through photos on social media.
When the rumor is posted to Instagram, Del Rey quickly reveals that it is not true. “No,” she writes, following it up with a comment that says: “Also, that’s not his daughter on Twitter.” Later, the X user reveals they had merely shared the tweet as a joke.
However, Dufrene is in fact a father, and he has two daughters and a son with his ex-wife.
August 24, 2024: The two are spotted holding hands at a music festival.
For the first time ever, Del Rey is seen hanging out with Dufrene in public. The two are caught holding hands at the Reading and Leeds Festival in Wetherby, England, where Del Rey was one of the headliners. This quickly leads to speculation around their relationship.
In a video posted by a fan, the singer is seen walking around backstage, where she rocks a white-and-blue patterned spaghetti-strap dress while hand in hand with Dufrene, who sports a baseball cap and sweatpants, as well as a zip-up jacket pulled from Del Rey’s merch collection. On his breast, the word “Lana” is printed with a picture of a bow underneath, indicating Dufrene’s support for the singer.
May 16, 2024: Lana refers to Jeremy as “my guy” in an Instagram post.
Back in the bayou, Del Rey posts a photo to Instagram that references Dufrene.
In a marshy area, Del Rey stands alongside her siblings while sporting a cream knit dress and a pair of noise-canceling headphones.
Although he’s not pictured, Dufrene gets a shout-out in the caption, where Del Rey writes: “Family w my guy @jeremy.dufrene 📸 @codyjay.”
March 2019: Lana posts her first-ever photo with Jeremy.
While it’s unclear how long Del Rey and Dufrene have known each other, the alligator boat-tour guide is first linked to the singer in March 2019, when she posts an image of him on her Facebook account.
“Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours x,” the Grammy winner writes. In one photo, Dufrene sits next to her with his arm resting on the back of her chair, seemingly guiding her as she steers the boat. Del Rey also includes selfies with her friends (one of which Dufrene photobombs) and a photo of the sign for the tour establishment.
