Michelle Williams retired her signature blonde colour in favour of a blush pink pixie crop for the Met Gala 2024. The Fabelmans actress took to the adorned green carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night dressed in a voluminous Chanel gown, with a sparkling tiara headband and possibly the Met Gala's most unexpected beauty transformation: a new rose-toned hair colour.
Although the fresh hue is undoubtedly a stark alternative for the actress, the romantic nature of the hairstyle made for an effortless fit for the evening's theme, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'. The hairstyle felt complete with a delicate jewelled headband and a sleek, side-swept styling, courtesy of famed hairstylist Chris McMillan.
In terms of make-up, Williams opted for a whimsical beauty look with a touch of smoky grunge.
"I was inspired to create an ethereal, yet edgy, make-up look which represented Michelle at her core," says make-up artist Angela Levin who was behind the beauty. "What came to mind was the image of an angel in a French, new-wave era."
Levin continues: "I wanted to create an eye look which incorporated a combination of softness and edginess and excluded any sharp lines. I worked in circular motions as I layered the eyeshadow onto the eyelid. I started by applying the lightest colour of Chanel Ombre Essentielle Multi-Use Longwearing Eyeshadow in the inner corners of the lid and as I traveled outward on the eye, I gradually applied darker shades – blending seamlessly to create an ombré effect."
It was Williams' delicate Chanel mini dress and voluminous sheer cape that took centre stage at the event, however. Paired with simple metallic heel and glittering button embellishments, this ever-so-pretty look is like a glimpse into a fairytale. The blush pink pixie crop was simply the finishing fable-ready touch.
