When you’re an internationally beloved pop star, there’s only way one to make an entrance: in style.
Mariah Carey touched down in Brazil on Wednesday, ahead of her performance at the Rock in Rio festival, scheduled for Sunday, September 22. The major music festival is taking place in Rio de Janeiro—hence the name—but Carey first flew into São Paulo, not quite 300 miles away, where she was greeted by hordes of excited fans (seen here).
For her first day in the country, Carey looked like the picture of breezy elegance in a slinky dark chocolate brown dress from Ferragamo that could translate easily from, say, an international flight where you want to be cozy, to a fancy dinner or press event.
The body-hugging piece was composed of a viscose material and featured an off-the-shoulder top with halter-style strings that looped around Carey’s neck and held the dress together in the front, creating a teardrop-shaped cutout along her chest with ruching at the hems.
To go with the long-sleeved, cold-shoulder dress, Carey wore her signature oversize sunglasses, this time choosing a set of black frames with ombré lenses. As for jewelry, the singer opted for a pair of diamond stud earrings and large sparkly rings, while her shoes were nude-colored heels with transparent straps along the front and back.
Carey’s arrival was certainly met with a lot of fanfare, and it’s no wonder, given that she has not performed in the South American country since 2010. Leading up to her Rock in Rio appearance, Carey even posted a clip to Instagram that showed just how many Brazilian fans have been begging her to return to the country in the comments of her social media accounts. In her caption, the elusive chanteuse simply wrote: “See you soon Brasil!!!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷.”
