It's not been the year that anyone expected, but it's still been a busy one for British-Argentine actress Anya Taylor-Joy. This month she's captivating audiences in new Netflix hit The Queen's Gambit, and earlier this year she received rave reviews for her starring role in Emma, the film adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved 1815 novel of the same name. She spent the late summer shooting Robert Eggers’ The Northman in Belfast in the midst of a pandemic, and also debuted another new role with Viktor & Rolf – as the face of the fashion house's fragrance, Flowerbomb Dew.

"I went back to London for the lockdown," she said of the past few months. "I was with my loved one [her photographer partner Ben Seed] and two of our friends. It was really great to have that community. The first two weeks were very touch and go but I’m so grateful for the space I’ve been afforded while taking this break. I’m also grateful for my emotional growth during this period."

In the video interview above, Taylor-Joy talks us through her love of scent – including her perfume application technique ensuring she resembles "a walkable bouquet". Plus, she opens up her beauty bag, revealing why crystals and palo santo sticks help keep her grounded; shares her hair conditioning secrets; explains her diet and exercise ethos; and reveals the relaxation rituals helping her connect with self care.

Delicate and refreshing, Viktor & Rolf's new iteration of the iconic Flowerbomb – one of the most recognisable fragrances of our time – is composed of a dewy rose accord alongside iris and musk. "It’s my favourite second skin," Taylor-Joy says, telling Bazaar that she likes "something multilayered that warms to your skin".

But perfume means more to her than simply another product. "It's pretty cool that all human beings have their own smell and all fragrances will smell differently on people, so I think that discovering that is something that I'm interested in," she says.
