Olivia Rodrigo made quite the statement when she arrived at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2023, wearing a sparkly silver gown from Ludovic de Saint Sernin that was dripping in 150,000 Swarovski crystals and made her look like a shimmering disco ball on the red carpet. However, while her look and her rowdy performance of “Get Him Back!” as well as “Vampire” were the real scene-stealers of the night, it seems she’s giving others the chance to shine at the 2024 ceremony.
This year, Rodrigo received four nominations at the music-video-focused ceremony, for Best Visual Effects (“Get Him Back!”), Best Art Direction (“Bad Idea Right?”), Best Cinematography (“Obsessed”), and a nomination for Best Pop. However, she was not there to accept any of her prizes.
As for why she was absent, Rodrigo just wrapped the final North American shows of her Guts World Tour last month, and if her Instagram posts are any indication, she is enjoying some travels around Europe before she takes the tour to Asia and Oceania in the fall.
Just last week, the pop punk singer was at the Venice Film Festival, where she made her first red-carpet appearance with boyfriend Louis Partridge. Since, she has been posting carousels from her travels around Italy as she takes a break from touring, and the singer is likely enjoying some well-deserved time off, and celebrating the one-year anniversary of Guts, from the comfort of a Mediterranean villa somewhere. We certainly can’t blame her.
